05/25/21; Week 6: Response to "Differences in Emotional Expressivity"
Emotions play an essential role in the life of human beings. Through them we express moods and feelings that show that we care about people, we also do it through details such as sending flowers, sending letters and even sending gifts that make our loved ones and other members of our circle feel good.
As part of the
culture in Latin America, you can see a lot of people walking in the streets
and parks holding hands and many times giving a romantic kiss in some corner,
or rather everywhere, it is not just the simple fact of look forward to
Valentine's Day to celebrate love and friendship.
For us Latinos
expressing the emotions of joy allows us to create a good environment where we
meet, it can be at home or at work, that definitely helps a lot here, but we
also try to manage our emotions, because sometimes we can also express things
that might offend others, that is, for instance, if I came to work by chance in
life, I had an argument when I left the house with a neighbor and I ended up
angry and I came to work and suddenly a colleague asked me for something from
work and for being with those emotions without bad intention I respond in a
rude way although unconsciously but that happens, and of that we must be very
careful.
Although in my
culture it is normal to show feelings and emotions, we always try to manage
them, because it depends on that to be able to have a good coexistence with
people in all the spaces in which we find ourselves.
That's right, Latinos are generally much more effusive with emotions. Before the pandemic, in Venezuela it was very common to greet people with a kiss on the cheek and a hug and it has been very difficult to put this custom aside. I think the most important thing is to understand that there are differences in the expressiveness of emotions depending on the culture you are in, to avoid misunderstandings.
