06/3/21; Week 7: Response to "Culture and Psychology"

We have dealt with the subject of culture in these two weeks, and we have addressed every cultural aspect worldwide. That is why these two questions come from me. How does culture influence our psychology? How does this allow us to learn and take advantage of that to get ahead in life?      Listening to brother Ivers about his experience in the Yucatan peninsula about that eighty-year-old old man is really amazing, I could understand why that man felt ashamed of not being able to hunt an iguana that day, and it is that really many times they do not come out things as we want despite our expertise in doing something; It is like for example, when we are good at something and suddenly someone comes along who has never done it and suddenly does it better than us, really that can make us feel bad and we become a little ashamed and much more if our people see us lose. I can understand that this directly affects our self-esteem, but we must understand and b...

06/3/21; Week 7: Response to "Differences in Manners"

Customs and manners are practices that are learned in the first instance at home, basically they are what define our education, and as such we must be aware of what and where we are to demonstrate it with a good attitude.      One of the first things that I learned since I remember was to pray, greet adults and everyone where I went, give things in hand and a very important and sacred thing that was on the table when we served our food that it was about having your hands under the table, I will never forget that. In my opinion, I believe that not only in America is a marker thrown when someone asks for it, in fact, here in Latin America we do it, but with people very close to us and only when we are at a long distance, but we always try to give the things in hand, such as when we are guests in a house or to people older than us or at work.      Listening to Brother Ivers I felt very identified with the experience he had in Mexico, be...

06/1/21; Week 7: Response to "Cross-Cultural Students in the Classroom"

When I started my career as a teacher, I did not know what this entailed, but I did know that I was going to walk on a very enriching path for both my students and myself. Along that path as a TESOL teacher I began to experience some situations with my students that at first I could not master, but then I analyzed each situation and understood that my students come from different subcultures and I began to be aware that they can not only be students from my country, but also from other countries so it had to address them more thoroughly, therefore we teachers must always bear in mind that we are faced with different cultural paradigms.      I believe that we all agree with the fact that there is a wide variety of cultures that involve customs, that in the educational field, students interact and share their customs when they meet, identifying that sometimes there is similarity between one and the other; however, due to their differences, they could g...

05/28/21; Week 6: Response to "Attributional Tendencies"

I want to share with you something very personal, I can say that it is something very special, something very deep and sensitive about my life. As I shared in my previous post, I had a very beautiful childhood with my brothers and my mother, as time went by we reached adolescence and due to life circumstances my mother undertook a trip to another country and I never thought that from that moment would begin our independent adventure and survival in the real world, the life.      This adventure begins with the fact that I had just graduated from high school and wanted to enroll in the university, and I said; I am going to take a break for a year and the next I will go back to my studies, but it was not like that, that next year I got a job and I loved having my own money and being able to afford my own expenses without the help of my mom or dad, and it really took five years of working non-stop, but then I started to feel that I was stuck, that I need...

05/27/21; Week 6: Response to "Personal Space Differences"

I want to start by telling something personal about my childhood. I consider that I had a very beautiful childhood with my two brothers, we shared everything, same clothes, same toys and also we shared a room with three beds in which we talked a lot until we fell asleep. Things were like this until when I was sixteen years old, suddenly there were already things that we did not share, but we were always very close until today that we frequent a lot. We also had several friends in common who always visited my house with whom we shared as brothers.      Spaces are very important in coexistence, whether family, work or with friends and they must be established effectively so that neither interferes with the other; I am one of the people who like to enjoy the three spaces, I like to be listened to and listen very carefully to the person who speaks to me, it is like establishing a high level of respect and importance to what is dealt with at that time wit...

05/26/21; Week 6: Response to "Individualism vs Collectivism"

I have always thought that a good job is better when done as a team, but for the job to work it needs individual work for an excellent achievement of the objectives. In my own experience I have seen cases in my school in which some do more than others and even the work of others, because they do not have mastery of that task and we simply agree, because the institution moves forward as a team, that is why individualism is so necessary to that there is equity for the sake of a single objective which is the solid growth of our students.      In an educational culture, the results are astonishing when each student is given instructions and makes the most of them, individual activities are necessary for them to be autonomous and have that freedom of expression, thus managing to act by themselves. When our students have the ability to fend by themselves, they can contribute in a positive way in a collective work, taking it forward, because this makes that...

05/25/21; Week 6: Response to "Differences in Emotional Expressivity"

Emotions play an essential role in the life of human beings. Through them we express moods and feelings that show that we care about people, we also do it through details such as sending flowers, sending letters and even sending gifts that make our loved ones and other members of our circle feel good.      As part of the culture in Latin America, you can see a lot of people walking in the streets and parks holding hands and many times giving a romantic kiss in some corner, or rather everywhere, it is not just the simple fact of look forward to Valentine's Day to celebrate love and friendship.      For us Latinos expressing the emotions of joy allows us to create a good environment where we meet, it can be at home or at work, that definitely helps a lot here, but we also try to manage our emotions, because sometimes we can also express things that might offend others, that is, for instance, if I came to work by chance in life, I had a...
