06/3/21; Week 7: Response to "Differences in Manners"

Customs and manners are practices that are learned in the first instance at home, basically they are what define our education, and as such we must be aware of what and where we are to demonstrate it with a good attitude.

One of the first things that I learned since I remember was to pray, greet adults and everyone where I went, give things in hand and a very important and sacred thing that was on the table when we served our food that it was about having your hands under the table, I will never forget that. In my opinion, I believe that not only in America is a marker thrown when someone asks for it, in fact, here in Latin America we do it, but with people very close to us and only when we are at a long distance, but we always try to give the things in hand, such as when we are guests in a house or to people older than us or at work.

Listening to Brother Ivers I felt very identified with the experience he had in Mexico, because where I live is a very noisy place and people play their music loudly at all hours till dawn, and more than being tolerant I would say that I am used to live with that, because I do my work and my tasks listening to that music, I have no other option.

Regarding punctuality, I have always thought that this is the greatest act of respect that we owe to people and to ourselves, because I do not consider unpunctuality as something normal if we are talking about a formal or a job issue, however it is something that happens a lot in my workplace, the meeting link is usually sent to everyone, but for instance, out of thirty guests, only five enter on time and the rest gradually enter and actually that causes the continuity of the meeting to be distorted. Finally, my opinion about good manners is that they are essential practices that come from home and define us as responsible human beings before all.

  1. Hello, Santiago, I find it very interesting what you mention that good manners come from home, although there is a culture where certain guidelines and labels are established for us, each one of us is responsible in the way we behave and act in front of others.
